This Chawan tea bowl has been made using a carved paddle which I use to 'beat' the pattern onto the surface of the pot during the throwing phase. This Chawan was wood fired in the Oxford Anagama kiln. The chawan has a natural 'fly ash' glaze on the outside which collects during the firing process and has helps to accentuate the wave/fish scale pattern. The inside has been glazed with a Nuka glaze, the smooth texture and soft colour contrasts the exterior in a very complimentary way.
This tea bowl comes with a Chasen tea whisk and bamboo tea scoop for traditional Matcha tea making as well as its own presentation box.
